Karaoke Event 2013

On 17 May 2013 we socialised and sang karaoke. The ca. 45 participants could either just sing along (and did!) or even pick up the challenge of being nominated and singing a song to raise funds. Well over 25 songs were sung (and even danced to) and many more would have liked to take to the mike – however, with a rousing finale of Bon Jovi’s It’s my Life and with SFr. 900 in the pot and the winner of the evening (Tyler Belich who raised SFr. 77 alone with his version of Wanted Dead or Alive – Bon Jovi) receiving his FHNW hoodie, we finished on a high.

During the evening there were a number of short inputs.

  • Regina Nasseremba – an alumna who set up a secondary school in Uganda which now teaches nearly 300 pupils – had made a film about her school and how the money the alumni raised last year was spent and this was shown in part. Have a look at Regina’s amazing story and her film here (please note: unfortunately the last 10 minutes of the film did not arrive intact, so there’s only 19 minutes of it here. Also, Regina presents the film in German – a language she had to master here while she studied in IM. If you want more information vist their website)
  • Another alumnus, Andrew Frei, presented the charity Swiss Support Foundation he co-founded with Lukas Frischknecht andand Flavio Schneeberger in the Philippines. SSF has undertaken various projects (water supply, accident and health insurance) to improve the quality of life in a village there. You can see his presentation here and if you want more information, go to their homepage
  • Some statistics about the IM programme were also presented – see here.
  • The President of the IM Alumni, Esin Cengiz opened and closed the event which included information about further planned events this year such as the association’s presence at the forthcoming open day of the new campus (21 September 2013) and Graduation (26 September 2013) and an informal barbecue event in August. Esin also reminded everyone that the association survives only through volunteers and donations. So if you wish to donate either time or funds go to our Give Back page or contact us.
